THE ARTISTS.

John Wigston,  GRA.

John E . Wigston was born in Redhill, Surey, in 1939. He has always been fascinated with transport, especially railways and shipping. His art  began to take on importance when he  attended Hartlepool College of Art  and had his first exhibition  at Gray Art Gallery, Hartlepool.  More exhibitions followed. Museum of British Transport, Clapham, and Doncaster Art Galleries.  Commissions have included work from the Tourist Board, Barclays Bank, North of England Development Council, as well as numerous overseas commissions.

John has worked on a series of watercolours from the famous Cunard Liners and was artist in residence on the QE2, on a transatlantic passage to New York. However, anything driven by steam fascinates him, and has enjoyed an interest in traction engines and fairground scenes.  John is a member of the  Guild of Railway Artists, has recently been commissioned by the National Railway Museum at York , to do a series of sketches at Railfest 2012.
